screens in sports venuesConducting international sporting events, the need to deliver greater value to advertisers and search for innovation, are some of the reasons for stadiums and coliseums seeking to implement the best audiovisual technology.

Ensure that viewers can enjoy a good image when they need it, is the main objective of a computer installed inside a sports arena, especially because this audience seeks close look at the details of what happens on the field.

Information transmission and display of advertisements, also part of the functions that can get to meet the audiovisual equipment in such facilities. In either case it is essential to ensure adequate sight distance for users.

To achieve this, the size and distance are the two most important elements to consider, because according to these two parameters the screen resolution should be to ensure satisfactory viewing experience will be chosen.

For all occasions
You can use screens of different types and resolutions depending on the application that is to be given; in that sense, choosing the right equipment can save costs and ensure maximum utilization of existing resources.

For example, the LED type marker screens are designed to display numerical information; the headband type are used, usually on the second level of the stands to display advertising logos and medium resolution; LED screens fixed installation are located on the top of the stage to show live video; while the perimeter are present at the level of the court.

Regardless of the type of screen used, there are some general factors to consider when making the project since its fulfillment depends on the optimal operation of the equipment. The engineer Alfredo Olivares, CEO of Tronics RGB, highlighted some of these parameters.

First of all, it is essential to ensure that the surface or support area of the screen has sufficient strength to withstand the total weight that it will exert, including its fixing structure.

Previously you must define the support structure for the screen, considering that must be evaluated, similarly if necessary foundation is necessary to conduct a study of wind, if the equipment is to be installed over four meters and analyze the surface curvatures for cabinets when necessary.

It should also be checked that the electrical installation is prepared for the total power of operation that the screens will demand and, if not, to make the pertinent modifications. "It is very important that the electrical connection has a fuse box, which should be calculated based on the maximum amp consumption required by the screen when operating at 100% of its total brightness," Olivares explained.

He further stressed the importance of installing thermo-magnetic switches, have a good grounding and ensure that the supply voltage is regulated to avoid malfunctions on the screens.

Finally, keep in mind also the video processing system to use and the type of connection (CAT5 UTP, fiber optic, 3G, wireless routers, etc) more suitable to the needs of enclosure.

The challenge
Although the image quality and satisfaction of viewers is most important when a project is done in a sports arena, it should also take into account those who enjoy from the comfort of your home.

It is common for such events to be recorded or broadcast live on television, so the screens should have a refresh rate (Hz) high enough to allow it to not appear in the recordings sweepings or black marks on image, said Andrés Lescano, director manager of LED SA

Lescano also highlighted the importance of making an appropriate choice of devices, "it is common for budgetary reasons low-resolution equipment or small, which is reflected in a poor image acquired".

Meanwhile, Alonso Gonzalez, manager of AOC Peru, pointed to the design and location of the control room as another determining factor such scenarios. He especially noted the importance of allowing visual contact between who controls the system and screens, so that any errors can be detected immediately.

He also recalled that the most common is to use LED modules, which are joined with each other to build the screen according to the size needed, so it should be checked very well the connection between the modules to ensure that the image is uniform and not defects occur in the junction points.

Technology and market
The functionality of the screens in stadiums is reflected in its usefulness for viewers, but also in its implementation as advertising platforms. "The migration from static advertising to digital signage is it reaching all sectors and definitely the sport is very attractive for brands," he said about Gonzalez.

The guest stressed that the possibilities of current technology, both in the quality of equipment and advances level software, allowing everyday applications and functionalities of these devices increase.

In conclusion, the use of these systems will continue to grow, especially because they offer added value, both for the companies that decide to install them and for the spectators who enjoy them.

AOC Peru was the company in charge of modernizing the stadium of Club Alianza Lima. Alonso González shared some details of the process.

Objective: The client sought to be the first team in the country to have this type of screens in his stadium, while he hoped to provide a better advertising offer.

Equipment: a giant screen resolution 25 m2 in P16 and a linear banner ad 100 meters was installed.

Installation: kind of a framework in which the modules are assembled to form the screen 25 m2 metal structure was armed. In the case of banner advertising the process was simpler to go on the field just became a base which maintained flush modules and attached with an anchoring system.

Difficulties: As the stadium was not designed to have this kind of equipment, it was necessary to seek strategies to bring power to the screens and achieve a proper distribution of the video signal. an external wiring was performed, for which she was advised of an engineer with knowledge of electrical levels of the stadium and the capabilities thereof as to support energy.

Another complex point was the installation of the screens, because the shape of the stands became involved scaffolding. To overcome this difficulty cranes were used.

Beisball Stadium
RGB Tronics also shared details of its facilities. In this case Alfredo Olivares spoke about the work of the company in the ballpark Tomas Oroz Gaytan in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora.

Objective: Reconstruction of the stadium in which a color LED electronic display is included to broadcast live videos in high resolution. The customer wanted a greater advertising impact for sponsors and show viewers technological innovation.

Equipment: LED electronic display meters long 7,68 4,32 meters high and pixel pitch (resolution) of real 20mm. The screen was formed with 54 1.280 cabinets mm wide by 480 mm high.

Installation: Because the total weight of the screen (2,500 kg) and its structure, added to the height that was to be achieved, it was necessary to do a job completely new foundation on which footings, posts and structure for securing equipment incorporated.

As the device had a consumption of 500 watts per square meter and a maximum power consumption of 900 watts per square meter, a voltage regulator was used, loads swayed by connecting in biphasic manner and three phase, and a feeler selected cable for optimal total power consumption.

UTP cable system CAT6 which is useful for not longer distances to 300 meters between the screen and the control system was used for the connection.

To mount one more easily demountable structure so that the screen used is assembled at ground level on a prefabricated steel structure, and it was rising to incorporate cabinets.
