How to measure the size of the market? #546

They are many the size of the professional audio-visual market in Latin America wonder.

Beyond decide "how to" measure the size, that is, if you include the sales channel and professional users, are many who even agrees which "Items" constitute the market for professional audiovisual systems to measure correctly.

Then I leave a short summary of imports to Mexico during 2015 on the category starting with HS #8518. The data come from the customs statistics collected by our friends in www.datamyne.com .

Based on feed back from readers, I will review the statistics we have at our disposal to make other presentations in the market.

Agree on which items are our guild certainly will help us make proper analysis.

How to measure the size of the market? #548

Well, as I was in doubt last week. Now I did the same exercise with Colombia and thus compare it to Mexico.

To begin, let's summarize roughly their economies:

Mexico GDP = US $ 1.14 billion
Colombia GDP = US $ 378.000 million
... I mean that the Mexican economy is approx. 3x Colombian.

GDP / Capita Mexico = US $ 9.000
GDP / Capita Colombia = US $ 6.000
... I mean it's just a 30% more per capita in the Aztec country

Given that reality, in the case of imports into Colombia of products HS #8518 and related, One would expect some consistent numbers.

However it is not so.

Compared to the previously published table, imports of HS #8518 are 13x more in Mexico!

The questions are many.
  • Or there is great growth opportunity in Colombia ?!
  • Or there is much deviation at the time of assigning the category of HS ?!
How else can you explain that imports from Colombia of speakers, microphones and accessories are 13x less?

How to measure the size of the market? #549

the issue of import in each country is relative, as the customs control agencies measured in different areas, also some entrepreneurs who are "smart" and are not quantified or smuggling.

imported into Mexico from the United States is much simpler than in Colombia Import, is only passing trucks. making the cost in theory be much lower.

Another important issue is that Mexico has a much larger music market, and has a high musical content, Colombia meanwhile is more "backward" in some areas, in others evolved much better.

so "the sound will always be relative" and you can not compare two options, that will always be very different.

Thanks John,

Another manufacturer Suger also that the difference is "creativity" of Colombians at the time of its imports. But there is a difference 13x It leaves me with many doubts.

In the case of Colombia I have access to importing companies to see if it matches the industry / professional v country and I publish it next week. There are companies that we all know. However there are other unknown to me.

In the case of Mexico, I do not have those data importers yet.

However, we agree that the item HS #8518 and related if the appropriate item?
